1. INTERNET RESOURCES

There are endless sources of information about clay and pottery on the net and the list grows longer daily. Here is the latest consolidation of web sites, and other net resources for pottery information.

1.1 Usenet groups

rec.crafts.pottery

bit.listserv.clayart (this is the Clayart list in newsgroup form-see Mailing list information below)

1.2 Mailing list

(from the informational message you receive on joining):
CLAYART is a forum for discussion of issues relating to clay and ceramics. CLAYART is a computer conference that serves as a means of communication for those interested in the ceramic arts. CLAYART is open to anyone wishing to participate, but will be particularly useful for those in ceramic-related areas of academia, private studios, galleries, etc.

To join CLAYART, send an email to the following address: listserv@lsv.ceramics.org with this in the message body:

SUBSCRIBE CLAYART YourFirstName YourLastName
More information about clayart here.

1.3 Live pottery chatter-an IRC channel where we gather to talk about our work,
exchange ideas, glaze recipes and technical advice or just relax before or after our potting day. The busiest time seems to be in the evenings around 8 or 9pm CDT.

IRC channel #pottery on the starlink irc system-some server addresses:

  • Rochester.MI.US.StarLink.Org
  • Aspen.CO.US.StarLink.Org
  • Roseburg.OR.US.StarLink.Org
  • Lannion.FR.EU.StarLink.Org
  • Miami.FL.US.StarLink.Org
  • Cinci-2.OH.US.Starlink.Org

For more information about irc and the potter's channels check the information here at the CeramicsWeb.
If you still have questions you can e-mail Michelle Lowe at mishy@desertdragonpottery.com.
