Join us for a two day extravaganza of information
Contemporary techniques of Naked Raku
(carbon stenciling) presented by
five of the world’s experts in the field. Lectures and demonstrations
will
be augmented by hands-on projects and kiln firings.
Fee: $200 if paid in full prior to February 15th, 2009, $225 after February 15
Presenters:

Wally Asselberghs (Belgium)
Wally’s ceramic education began in 1978 at the Academy of Hoboken, later
in Berchem and abroad. He was first exposed to Naked Raku in 1995 during a workshop
with Margot Spiegel. Wally has presented many workshops in both Europe and North
America and in 2002 founded the Yahoo Naked Raku Forum which now boasts over
800 members. He has been published in Clay Times, Alternative Kilns and Firing
Techniques and in Fired Up With Raku.

Will Jacobson (USA)
Will and Kate Jacobson have been collaborative studio potters since 1978. Will
has a BS in Art Education from Northern Illinois University and Kate received
her BA in Environmental Studies from The Evergreen State College. They have
exhibited their work internationally, won numerous awards and are included in
both public and private collections. The Jacobson’s have taught in the
Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium and the United States. They currently reside
in Hawaii and joyfully volunteer for community projects.

Eduardo Lazo (USA)
Eduardo Lazo is a professional potter/sculptor with 28 years of ceramic experiences.
He has taught in private studios, community centers, colleges and universities.
He holds an MFA from California State University Los Angeles and is an internationally
recognized expert in low fire techniques, specializing in Naked Raku, Pit Fire,
Saggar Fire and Fuming Techniques.


Linda and Charles Riggs (USA)
Charles has a Fine Arts Degree in Pottery. He has been featured in Clay Times,
Ceramics Monthly, and Studio Potter as well as in the books, "Alternative
Firing Methods" by Watkins/ Wandless and "Raku, The Practical Approach,"
by Steven Branfman. Charlie has exhibited extensively in the Southeast, the
Western US, and as far away as Canada and Norway. He also teaches workshops
throughout the US and Canada.
Linda has a Masters in Anthropology. She collaborates with Charlie to create some of the unique surfaces on their pottery including saggar-firing, naked raku, carvings, and slip designs. Linda has written a number of articles on pottery for Ceramics Monthly and Clay Times. She is also featured in magazine articles on saggar firing, and in the books by Watkins/Wandless and Steven Branfman. She co-teaches workshops with her husband, Charlie.

Mishy Katz (USA)
After earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics at Arizona State University
in 1982, Michelle (Mishy) Katz continued studying clay art with a variety of
local teachers and participated in many workshops with visiting artists. In
1999 she established Desert Dragon Pottery in north Phoenix and has since built
a reputation for hosting workshops with prominent internationally known artists.
She enjoys networking and learning new processes making workshop hosting one
of her favorite studio endeavors
